Synthetic ice has similar properties as natural ice, but with 20%more resistance. Training on synthetic ice will increase your leg strength and stamina. Synthetic ice has ice-like response in just about every way. Unlike natural ice synthetic ice creates more friction so skating is a bit more difficult and requires proper fundamental skating techniques. This is an excellent attribute for conditioning and learning the proper ice skating skills. For goaltenders sliding is more difficult because of the friction, so again synthetic ice training will make you push harder into slides, and into lateral movements making it superb for conditioning and practice. Here at The Hockey Stop we practice every skill that we perform on natural ice and get the same if not a better, result! Training on synthetic ice and then returning to natural ice is an advantage because it makes your skating and movements much more explosive and precise.
